DiEd & Gone Down the Pub
The Wine Vaults - 43-47 Albert Road, Southsea, Portsmouth, Hampshire, PO5 2SF
We paid a visit here on a January Saturday afternoon - no fruit machines, no juke box - heaven!
A good selection of Gales offerings, but also some unknown but excellent ale's, which due to an excess of good beer
we can't remember the names of! We had fantastic chilli burgers - they make them themselves - very good with chunky chips.
A perfect place to while away the afternoon with a few pints and a bit of a chat. Friendly staff
and customers there to chill too. We did'nt have our pooch with us, but will next time, as it appears to be a Pooch
friendly establishment. I would like to have a pub like the Wine Vaults as my local.
The Cormorant - 181 Castle Street, Portchester, Fareham, Hampshire.
The closest we currently have to a local (well one we would actually
wish to go to!) - although our visits are sadly few and far
between in the winter,
as this is not a dog friendly pub. (Why not? They could have a dog area in the pub?) There is however a rather
grim seating area outside, where you can sit with your pooch when the weather allows.
Beers - Gales with guests - recently began to take beers from our local Gosport Oakleaf Brewery, which we really hope they
continue to do.
Food was sadly attempting to go
down the over priced and pretentious "Gastro Pub" route - however there
have recently (as of Jan 07) been changes
, which we hope bode's well. Watch this space.
It's a comfortable pub - but suffers somewhat as it is very near the Castle and of course is slap in the middle of posh, poncey
and pretentious Castle Street, so attracts much passing visitor trade, and subsequently feels a little soul less.
