The Riddle of the Sands - Erskine Childers

"In October last (1902), my friend 'Carruthers' visited me in my chambers, and, under a provisional pledge of secrecy, told me frankly the whole of the adventure described in these pages. Till then I had only known as much as the rest of his friends, namely, that he had recently undergone experiences during a yachting cruise with a certain Mr 'Davies' which had left a deep mark on his character and habits......."

A fantastic book!  Carruthers and Davies, two classic English "Chaps", foil a dastardly plot by the Hun to invade Olde England.  Amazing sailing detail, as Childers was an avid Yachtie and knew what he was writing about.  Davies' yacht, the ever faithful and true "Dulcibella", is my dream yacht.  "'Some people make a point of head-room, but I never mind much about it..."

Amazing tale of daring do, fantastic detail regarding the Freisan coast, and on the experience of mucking about in a small boat.  If I could live in a book, this would be the one.  Very much influenced by Knights Baltic voyage on the Falcon, which again I would happily live in.
